Fees & FAQs

Investing in Care That Goes to the Root

My rates reflect the time, training, and thoughtful attention you receive — not just during sessions, but in the care and preparation that surrounds them. If you have questions about fit or pricing, I offer a free 20-minute consultation before we begin.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I do not contract with insurance. This allows me to offer longer, slower, trauma-informed care without the restrictions, time limits, or required diagnoses that insurance plans impose.

If your plan offers out-of-network benefits, I can provide a monthly superbill for out of network reimbursement.

I recommend calling the member services number on your insurance card and asking about your out-of-network. Click to learn more.

  • It depends on what you need. Medication follow-ups are usually every 2-4 weeks at the start and gradually space out to minimum every 3 months once you're stable.

Therapy sessions are typically weekly or every other week, especially early on, to support establishing connection and building safety.

We'll figure out a rhythm that works for your life.

  • I am available for non-urgent messages through the patient portal during business hours. You can expect a response within one business day. The portal is the best way to ask questions, request medication refills, or share updates between sessions. Please note that the portal is not monitored after hours or on weekends.

  • Yes — when it feels aligned with your goals and values. I approach medication collaboratively and educationally, so you always understand what we're considering and why. Medication is one tool among many here, never the default or the only path forward.

  • Your safety and wellbeing always come first. If at any point it becomes clear that you need a higher level of support — intensive outpatient program, partial hospitalization program, inpatient psychiatric care, or a specialist — I will work with you on a thoughtful referral. You won't navigate that alone.

  • If you are experiencing a mental health crisis outside of office hours, please use one of the following resources:

    • 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline — call or text 988, available 24/7

    • Crisis Text Line — text HOME to 741741

    • Mental Health Urgent Care — for non-emergency urgent psychiatric support in San Diego, Exodus Recovery

    • Emergency services — call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room if you are in immediate danger

Raíces is not a crisis service. If you are unsure whether your situation is an emergency, please err on the side of caution and use the resources above.

  • Paperwork completed together during a scheduled appointment is included in the session fee. Documentation requested outside of scheduled appointments — including forms, letters, accommodations, and FMLA — is billed at $100 per 15 minutes, prorated.

  • Yes, when clinically appropriate in California. I am able to prescribe controlled substances, including stimulant medications for ADHD, as part of a comprehensive evaluation and ongoing care relationship. Prescribing decisions are always made collaboratively, with attention to your full history, goals, and wellbeing.

ADHD evaluation at Raíces follows a thorough standard-of-care approach. This includes a comprehensive clinical assessment, collateral information, and relevant lab work. Neuropsychological testing may be recommended in some cases but is not always required. I do not prescribe stimulant medications based on outside diagnoses alone — a thorough assessment is part of how I ensure your care is accurate, individualized, and safe.

I do not prescribe benzodiazepines or sedative sleep medications (Z-drugs) for long-term use. Rather than managing symptoms with medications that can create dependence, my focus is on understanding and addressing the root causes of anxiety and sleep disruption — through nervous system healing, somatic work, and integrative care.

For New York-based patients: controlled substances cannot be prescribed to patients receiving care in New York state. If you are seeking ADHD treatment that may include stimulant medication, I am happy to discuss alternative approaches and referral options during our consultation.

Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much your care will cost before you receive services.

Under the No Surprises Act, health care providers are required to give patients who are uninsured or not using insurance a written estimate of expected charges for scheduled services. You may request a Good Faith Estimate at any time.

If your actual bill is $400 or more above your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the charges through the federal patient-provider dispute resolution process.

For questions about your Good Faith Estimate or to request one, contact us at contact@drnubia.com.
